I don’t regret saying prostitutes have no dignity –Okon Lagos

Nollywood actor, Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, was recently criticised heavily for a video he posted about some policemen who allegedly raped some prostitutes in Abuja. In the video, he described what the policemen did as similar to stealing. This evidently did not go down well with a lot of social media users, who accused him of justifying rape.Nollywood actor, Ime Bishop Umoh, popularly known as Okon Lagos, was recently criticised heavily for a video he posted about some policemen who allegedly raped some prostitutes in Abuja. In the video, he described what the policemen did as similar to stealing. This evidently did not go down well with a lot of social media users, who accused him of justifying rape.He revealed that the grouse people had with him was largely because he likened rape to theft. “The issue people had with what I said was that I likened rape to theft and that I said prostitutes do not have dignity. Seized $5.7m: Nobody complained I stole money, says Patience Jonathan

Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, on Friday urged the Federal High Court in Lagos to order the release of the $5.7m and N2.4bn seized from her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Her lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN), urged Justice Mojisola Olatoregun to dismiss the application by the EFCC, praying that the money be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. Adedipe argued that it was wrong for the EFCC to tag the money as proceeds of crime, when Patience had committed no crime and when nobody complained that their money was missing. The SAN said the funds were cash gifts which Patience received when her husband was in office. Adedipe said such gifts were normal, pointing out that even the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, was seeking to build a university. The lawyer contended that Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud, which EFCC relied upon to seize Patience’s funds, was only applicable to fraudsters. “It is not the law...

U.S. sanctions on Huawei: Japanese companies succumb to pressure

Japanese companies have responded to pressure from U.S. sanctions on Huawei, with electronics company Panasonic planning to suspend the provision of some components to the Chinese technology giant. Panasonic said in a short statement on Thursday “that it should suspend transaction with Huawei and its 68 affiliates that were banned by the U.S. government.” Panasonic is now examining which products could be subject to U.S. sanctions. Japanese mobile operators have also put the sale of new Huawei devices on hold or do not want to accept new orders out of concern that Google could no longer provide services such as Android to the Chinese company. Tokyo’s stock market slumped on Thursday amid concerns over the impact of the Huawei sanctions on Japanese suppliers. The Nikkei index for 225 leading stocks lost 0.6 per cent of its value to reach 21,151.14 points. The U.S. last week placed Huawei on a blacklist of companies whose business relationships with U.S. partners are t...

File Photo: President Muhammadu Buhari shake hands with Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi on Wednesday jokingly thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for not converting him to Islam, saying he was misunderstood and criticised for associating with the president. At the valedictory session of the council, ministers in the cabinet took turns to narrate the lessons they learnt from the president as members of his cabinet. Amaechi narrated how he was almost chased out of Christ the King Catholic Church in 2014 for supporting the president, whom they alleged was trying to Islamise the country. “Mr President, let me thank you for not converting me to Islam. It's public knowledge that Wizkid is not exactly on good terms with the mothers of his first two kids and this animosity with the ladies affects his relationship with their kids. But one wouldn't expect it to be as bad as not having a photo with his child. That is what the situation is, according to Binta Diallo, Wizkid's second baby mama. 'Alita: Battle Angel' Bravely Takes On The HDR Format War

A few weeks ago I wrote an article on the latest format war the AV industry has contrived to inflict on consumers. This time the fight is taking place in the high dynamic range arena, with two different premium HDR formats – Dolby Vision and HDR10+ – vying for support from different TV brands and movie studios.  Today has seen an unexpected and, on the surface at least, very positive development in resolving the HDR scrap, though. For tucked away in the disc specification section of 20th Century Fox’s press release for the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez’s  Alita: Battle Angel  is the revelation that it will carry the film in both the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ formats. A fact which Fox has confirmed to me isn’t just a press release typo. This means that no matter whether you have a TV and 4K Blu-ray player combi that supports Dolby Vision or a TV/4K Blu-ray combi that supports HDR10+, you will be able to enjoy  Alita:...
